Training Program in Dermatopathology
Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine

Program Description:
This one-year fellowship is designed to prepare individuals for an academic career in Dermatopathology in the United States. Training is grounded in a high-volume practice, with over 20,000 accessions annually, including numerous challenging consultation cases. Fellows are exposed to all or a selection of cases prior to final sign-out by attending dermatopathologists.

Additional year of optional training: Fellows are strongly encouraged to consider an optional second year focusing on research and advanced training in a dermatopathology subspecialty of interest—such as alopecia, lymphocytic infiltrates, or melanocytic lesions.

Program Details:
The fellowship begins and concludes with two months of intensive dermatopathology training. These are separated by an eight-month rotation structured as half-day sessions: clinical dermatology for pathology-trained fellows, or surgical pathology for dermatology-trained fellows. Dermatopathology instruction continues concurrently during the remaining half of each day. Fellows are expected to actively participate in all teaching activities throughout the year.

The optional second year provides in-depth research opportunities and expanded hands-on experience in dermatopathology, with a focus on selected subspecialty areas.

A unique aspect of our program is the opportunity for fellows to interact and work closely with one or two international dermatopathology fellows, fostering a rich and collaborative learning environment.

Requirements:
Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in Pathology (AP or AP/CP) or Dermatology.

Application Deadline:
The 2026 application cycle is still open.
